Flickr is an image sharing website. Photographers from all over the world use it to obtain feedback on their images, to share them with a wider audience and to make contacts with a vast network of professionals and enthusiasts.  It is estimated that images are uploaded to Flickr at the rate of around 400 per minute, and they are viewed, favourited and commented on by millions of Flickr members.

Photographs on Flickr are rated in terms of 'interestingness'. The algorithm that is used to calculate 'interestingness' is both complex and dynamic, but is broadly based on the number of viewers who save an image as a 'favourite', the number of comments they leave on it, and the number of views it achieves over a short period of time.

The top 500 'most interesting' photographs on Flickr each day are included in a section of the site called 'Explore', where visitors can see a selection of the best that Flickr has to offer.

I currently have eight photographs in Flickr's top 500:

This picture of the Lifeboat jetty at Lytham is the most popular image I have currently posted on Flickr.

It is ranked at number 7 in the Top 500
