I was born in Preston, and educated at Westcliff High School in Southend where I was fortunate, as a young person, to be surrounded by gifted, talented and artistic friends who inspired me to value creativity as highly as any of my more prosaic adolescent pursuits.
As I was, and remain, completely incapable of playing a musical instrument, painting a picture or designing a three dimensional object, I was left with the choice of either writing or photography.
Although I enjoy writing and I harbour an ambition to publish a novel, there are far more gadgets in photography, and frankly it is much less monotonous.
I studied for my degree with Robin Lord at Plymouth University in the late 1970’s, and exhibited for the first time at the Royal Photographic Society in 1977, and at the Essex Salon de Photographie from 1978.
Since then I have worked in education, teaching Art and latterly IT, but I have continued to exhibit and freelance.
